A short history of Bozeman

William Clark passed through the valley in July 1806. In 1863 John Bozeman opened the Bozeman Trail, a cutoff from the Oregon Trail to the Montana goldfields, and in August 1864 Bozeman, Daniel Rouse and William Beall platted the town. Fort Ellis (1867–1886) protected the settlement, and Nelson Story’s 1866 cattle drive from Texas helped found Montana’s cattle industry. Wikipedia

The Northern Pacific arrived in 1883 and the Agricultural College of the State of Montana, now MSU, opened in 1893. The city had 53,293 residents in 2020. Wikipedia
